DOCUMENTS & AUTOGRAPHSWhat is Scripophily? Scripophily refers to the hobby of collecting stocks, bonds and manuscripts. This growing hobby is still in its infancy stage, and we believe, offers an incredible ground-level opportunity for future collectors and investors. Of particular interest to us are the stocks and bonds, especially those from great companies and/or with meaningful autographs. The same combinations which make a coin valuable and desirable also apply to this closely related area of collecting. You will notice many of the items featured in our scipophily inventory are pieces from well known companies (i.e. American Express, 3M, American Standard, Edison Phonograph, etc) featuring equally prominent signers (Thos. Edison, J.P. Morgan, John D Rockefeller, Millard Fillmore, Jay Cooke, etc). Add in great graphics and condition, and you have the makings for a world-class piece. The neat thing about this area of collecting is the ability to procure pieces with an interest in common to the purchaser. A banker might relish the signature of J.P. Morgan, while a wine buff could consider Jacob Beringer a “must-have”. For the car nut, we feature an original REO Motors stock signed by Ransom Olds (yes, one and the same as the famous Oldsmobile). For those of you that fancy political Americana, we have a number of very rare presidential signed pieces dating back to the early 19th century. And if you’re looking for a great signed piece in particular, PLEASE make us aware of it. We’ll do our absolute best to locate it for you. These certificates and documents make beautiful wall hangings for a home, office or museum. For anybody interested in having one or more items custom framed, we have a neighbor, here in downtown Cumberland, who runs a framing shop. Their work is of the highest quality as they handle framing for many museums and institutions. We would be happy to have them design a frame for your document at our special wholesale cost. We make nothing on the framing, so either way, the choice is yours. Furthermore, estimates are free, and of course you’re under no obligation, until you give us the nod for the go-ahead We realize that most people venturing to our site are numismatists at heart. However, we urge everyone to at least give this area of the store a look-see. We feel that once you look at the beauty of these pieces, factor in the historical importance of them and contemplate the overall value, you might become more than little bit interested.
