Description
This is a 1796 DRAPED BUST HALF DOLLAR 15 STARS, PCGS VF-35 CAC, AMAZING, ORIGINAL & RARE!. One of the rarest federal issue United States coins, and the absolute rarest U.S. Silver Type coin, it is estimated that only 934 total 1796 Half Dollars were minted. 569 pieces are estimated to be 15 Stars with 365 pieces 13 Stars. Under 100 1796 Halves are believed to exist, with most putting the estimate at about 75 total coins. Only a few 1796s exist in Mint State, making a VF/XF example near the condition census for the date. Importantly, this 1796, conservatively graded VF-35, has ben awarded a CAC sticker, making it the only 35 CAC, and the third highest CAC 1796 Half available in any grade (just a single XF-40 and an AU-53 are CACd at higher grades).
The present example has original, rich bluish-grey patina in the recessed areas with slightly lighter silver-grey coloration over the raised surfaces. There are no distracting adjustment marks present, and marks are minimal and non-distracting. This example is evenly and well-struck for the type and the grade, giving the piece the appearance of a fully XF early half. The rims are crisp and well-defined, with strong denticles.
