This is a 1800 DRAPED BUST DIME HERALDIC EAGLE PCGS AU-58 CAC, PQ++ BEAUTIFUL & 100% FRESH.
If you could call a coin AU-65, this would be it! This 1800 Draped Bust Dime has been off the market since selling in the 2008 Ed Price collection for $32,200. This JR-1 variety is fully struck with bold and exceptional central details on both sides. Brilliant, frosty luster is evident with semi-prooflike surfaces, merging with gold, red and blue toning overlaying ivory surfaces. Marks are minimal and this has a choice Mint State look more than a traditional AU-58 look. When the Price collection was sold, this was considered the single finest JR-1 in existence, and the only one to be considered Mint State. According to Price, “I have never seen or heard of any Mint State pieces, and I doubt any exist, other than the present example. This is the finest JR-1 I have seen, and I was surprised to see it graded AU-58, as I believe it is Mint State.”
From a mintage of just 21,760 pieces, it is estimated that only about 200 1800 Dimes exist in all grades. Most are damages, cleaned, or have other issues. The AU-58 population is just 6, with only 2 coins awarded a CAC sticker. We strongly believe that the quality of this coin compares with an MS-63/63+ example. From the same collection as the 1796, this is another coin that Rob Lehmann once again said “just doesn’t exist today.” Although the 1796 is demanded as a 18th century date and for the Small Eagle type, the 1800 is a rarer coin in the absolute sense. For those who want the best and the prettiest. Once it’s gone, its gone!
