This is a 1801 DRAPED BUST HALF DOLLAR – PCGS AU-50, PLEASING & ORIGINAL, RARE! POP 5!. A truly rare issue, with an original mintage of just 30,289, and a survival estimate in all grades of just 600 (most are problem coins). There are just 5 AU-50s graded at PCGS with only about 16 coins graded higher. The Mint State survival estimate is just 2!. The present example exhibits original golden surfaces with pleasing peripheral toning. Marks and distractions are at a bare minimum, and the piece exhibits a nice overall appearance.
