Description
This is a ‘1784’ MACHINS RELATED, VLACK 14-84A 1/2 P COLONIAL – PCGS VF-30. An American manufactured “counterfeit” Halfpenny meant to circulate in the United States, these are collected alongside the famed Machin’s Mills counterfeit halfpenny pieces, but were possible produced elsewhere in the young United States. Most of these were found 100+ years ago in New Jersey, and numismatic historian Vlack believed them to be part of the Machin’s Mills New York issues. However, the exact location of their production is debated. Regardless, these are a great rarity in any grade, and this specific example approaches condition census. According to PCGS, this ranks tied for 5th, with just 2 VF-35, 1 XF-40 and an XF-45 as finest known for the type. Attractive medium-brown, this example has a nicely centered planchet with consistent overall detail and no major scratches or rim issues. The central striking weakness, as well as the reverse planchet roughness is known for every one of these issues. A truly rare early U.S. Colonial issue! Our commitment is to provide you with quality coins and collectibles at the best possible prices. This piece is no exception. Please note, the coin and collectibles markets do fluctuate, and prices occasionally will change. In this rare circumstance, we will contact you first to verify your order.
