Description
The Reeded Edge recently purchased an extensive collection of certified Washington numismatica featuring medals, store cards, propaganda, pieces, and general exonumia. These pieces are all contemporary, most emanating from the middle-19th century. Included are designs by Barber, Paquet and Lovett, to name a few. There are some extremely high grade and rare pieces in this collection, so careful examination is encouraged. We do not see pieces like this often, let alone this many at one time!
This is a 1797 (1859) GEORGE WASHINGTON SANSOM BRONZE MEDAL 1ST REISSUE GW-59 NGC MS-65 BN! Baker-72A, R.5. Red bronze, 40.8mm. The original dies were made by John Reich in 1807. This piece is from the original obverse die, while the reverse die was made in 1859 using hubs taken from the original reverse die. These dies were used to strike medals in various compositions between 1859 and the 1870s. A well made and desirable golden-brown Gem!
