This is a 1853 SEATED LIBERTY QUARTER, NO ARROWS – PCGS AU-50, RARE! FLASHY & WELL-STRUCK! A rare type with an original mintage of just 44,200 specimen. These were struck early in 1853 before the U.S. Mint added Arrows by the date to notate a weight reduction in the silver. This was to help adjust the gold/silver market exchange ratio. Only 500 pieces are are estimated to exist in all grades, and Mint State examples are exceedingly rare. This PCGS AU-50 is flashy and well struck. The AU-50 population is only 4 coins, with just 2 53s, 6 55s and 4 58s. PCGS Price Guide suggests a value of $6500. A tough issue!
