Description
This is a 1860-S $3 GOLD DOLLAR – PCGS AU-55, RARE! ACCORDING TO DAVID AKERS, This date is one of the unsung rarities of the series and ranks 7th in rarity by the number of appearances in our 238 catalogue auction survey and 5th in rarity by average grade. As the auction records indicate, the majority of known specimens are VF or less. Although 7,000 were minted, a substantial portion of the mintage (reportedly 2,592) were later melted. I am unaware of the existence of a full mint state specimen, although I have seen one choice AU-55 piece and as least two others that graded AU-50. SUFFICE TO SAY, THIS IS A RARE OPPORTUNITY TO OWN ONE OF THE SCARCEST DATES OF $3 GOLD. Our commitment is to provide you with quality coins and collectibles at the best possible prices. This piece is no exception. Please note, the coin and collectibles markets do fluctuate, and prices occasionally will change. In this rare circumstance, we will contact you first to verify your order.
