Description
This is a 1865 $10 GOLD LIBERTY COPPER PATTERN EAGLE J-450 PCGS PR-65 BN RARE TRANSITIONAL! This $10 Liberty Civil War Era Pattern is a very important piece, as it is a transitional test piece for the addition of the Motto “In God We Trust” that was later added to U.S. Gold coinage in 1866. There are estimated 12-15 pieces of this type known, with 2 known to have been struck in gold (but not having surfaced since the 1950s). This gem specimen has a population of 3 in PCGS MS-65 BN, with just 1 finer. Smooth and pristine with multicolored and reflective mirrored surfaces, this exceptional pattern is a real beauty. Although copper, when tilted under a light, a multitude of red, yellow and green colors come to life. Admittedly a difficult coin to image, the coin is much more colorful and reflective than our images indicate. We have included the PCGS TruView images to give an example of the colors, although they are admittedly a bit “glamorous.” However, this is a very, very pretty gem that should not be ignored. This exact coin sold way back in 2003 for over $6,600, making it feel like an outstanding value in today’s frenzied market. Our commitment is to provide you with quality coins and collectibles at the best possible prices. This piece is no exception. Please note, the coin and collectibles markets do fluctuate, and prices occasionally will change. In this rare circumstance, we will contact you first to verify your order.
