Description
This is a 1882 $10 BROWN BACK SOMERSET PA, NATIONAL CURRENCY, CH #4227, FR#487 – PMG F-12 HOLE. TILLMAN/MORGAN. This extremely rare Somerset County, PA note from the town of Somerset is one of the scarcest local notes we have handled in some time. The Track & Price Census shows only 1 note known (making this the 2nd), while the National Banknote Census shows this newly added note as the 2nd known. The Somerset County National Bank was charted in 1890 and quickly liquidated in January of 1910. Since they did not renew their charter in 1910, the bank only issued 1882 Series Brown Backs and Date Backs, with no 1902 Series Notes ever printed. Graded F-12 by PMG with the notation of a “Hole”, this note is an honest, attractive piece with vivid color, bold Pen Signatures, and a small punch at the “N” in NATIONAL that isn’t instantly noticeable. Track and Price estimates this note’s value at $3,000. For the advanced Pennsylvania collector, this isn’t a note to miss out on! Our commitment is to provide you with quality coins and collectibles at the best possible prices. This piece is no exception. Please note, the coin and collectibles markets do fluctuate, and prices occasionally will change. In this rare circumstance, we will contact you first to verify your order.
