Description
This is a 1911-D $5 INDIAN GOLD HALF EAGLE – PCGS MS-62+ RARE! CAC APPROVED! One of the true Key-Dates of the $5 Indian set, the 1911-D has an original mintage of just 72,500 pieces. They are even rarer in Mint State condition, with a few hundred estimated to exist in MS-60 or better. Considering the popularity of the $5 Indian series, that is simply not enough to go around. According to David Akers, the 1911-D $5 may be the biggest rarity among 20th century gold coins in MS-64 and better, likely rarer than ANY 20th century $10 or $20 in MS-64+. While this example falls slightly short of that statue according to the label, this coin itself stands on its own merits, and at a much lower price point than a $30,000 MS-64, a $75,000 64 or a $300,000+ MS-65. With strong luster, a bold mintmark, and fully struck surfaces, this key-date retains very attractive variegated color. Unlike many of the $5 Indians to have entered the market in the past few years, this piece does NOT have the European dirt and black on the surfaces. Contact marks are minimal and are consistent with a choice Mint State example, making this one especially attractive as an MS-62+. And as a premium and fresh, unmolested coin, this 1911-D has been awarded a CAC Green sticker by Certified Acceptance Corporation. PCGS Price Guide suggests a value of $21,000 and the last MS-62+ with a CAC Sticker to sell publicly realized over $22,000. We feel this is priced very attractively! This coin has it all: quality, rarity, an attractive price point……..Opportunity knocks!
