Description
The Reeded Edge recently purchased an extensive collection of certified Washington numismatica featuring medals, store cards, propaganda, pieces, and general exonumia. These pieces are all contemporary, most emanating from the middle-19th century. Included are designs by Barber, Paquet and Lovett, to name a few. There are some extremely high grade and rare pieces in this collection, so careful examination is encouraged. We do not see pieces like this often, let alone this many at one time!
With that said this is a ca. 1792 GEORGE WASHINGTON TWIGG MEDAL, WHITE METAL, GW-38 WM, NGC MS-63-RARE! (1790s) Twigg Medal MS63 NGC. Baker-65, Musante GW-38. White metal, 35.7 mm, plain edge. Charles Twigg was one of several Birmingham toy and/or button manufacturers who entered the token and medal business during the late 18th century. This well struck pearl-gray Washington commemorative medal is nearly void of marks. A great medal that was truly struck in George Washington’s lifetime. A wonderful period piece!
